5 Stars brita 1 year disposable water filtration system is the best !
This is our second one and it lasted over a year. We save so much money not having to buy bottled water. We use this with our Thermos water bottle for everywhere. We also bought my daughter and her husband one this year and they love it.

3 Stars Works great – can break easily
My parents got this as a gift and have used it for 4 months and loved it… water tastes great, easy installation and use. Plastic fitting has now broken where it screws onto tap and item is unusable.

5 Stars brita disposible water filter
the Brita Disposible Water filter is wonderful. I had been using the regular filters for years. When I saw it in the store, It said good for a year. I started adding up the filter replacements and grabbed it. It actually lasted about 13 months. It saves money, 1 unit per year(40.00) vice four filters per year(20-25 each)and has a filter light that lets you know it needs to be replaced. The whole unit is tossed. I’m having a hard time finding it in stores anymore, so I’m glad I found it on Amazon.

2 Stars Disappointed
I bought three of these filters because I reasoned that it was less wasteful to thrown out one complete filter system a year than to throw out three to five regular filters that the other systems used. I hooked up the first one and it worked okay except that as others have said the flow is greatly decreased and it takes a while to fill a glass. This I could live with thinking I was being less wasteful. Unfortunately, the system gave out after only three months. According to the instructions this system is supposed to handle 300 gallons of water. My wife and I live alone and we certainly did not use the 300 gallons of filtered water in three months. In fact, we probably use less than a half gallon a day. That means the filter should have lasted six hundred days. Not even close.

5 Stars Excellent product
i bought this last year, and it has worked perfectly for a year and 2 months, so longer than a years worth, and I drink Alot of water. I can’t say anything bad about this product 5* from me!!

5 Stars Glad I tried it
After reading some of the reviews compaining about loose-fitting tops, spillage, and charcoal dust, I was a bit apprehensive about placing my order.

I’m very glad I decided to order one. I’ve had this several weeks now and it is the perfect water container/filter for my use. I use it in my office instead of hauling cases of plastic bottles.

I’ve not experienced any of the problems noted.

5 Stars Perfect for the dorm/office; save your money & the environment!
I’ve had the pitcher for about a month now, and no complaints so far. In fact, I consider the purchase well worth it.

I used to drink bottled water, because I don’t find the taste of tap water particularly appealing. Buying a Brita pitcher, however, has several advantages:

      1. Saves money. I drink about 2 gallons of water per week at home (roughly speaking, and not counting my liquid intake in other forms & outside the house). If you rely on bottled water all the time, the money begins to add up quickly. The pitcher begins to pay for itself after about a month. The manual recommends that the filter be replaced every 2 months or 40 gallons – which is because, I am assuming, the average family goes through 40 gallons in about 2 months. If you’re a single student like me, a filter will see you through for 4-5 months.

      2. Saves time. It’s a real hassle when you run out of bottled water, the nearest grocery store is 3 blocks away and it’s 3 a.m. Yes, you do have to wait a good minute or two for the water to filter down but I’m sure most people have the patience to deal with that. Or you can just have it filled up to be used whenever.

      3. Helps save the environment. You ever wonder where all those plastic bottles come from and where they go after you throw ‘em away? Also, bottling water for commercial purposes as the beverage companies do can have detrimental ecological impacts on the source.

As for the black carbon bits that some people claim to find in their water, I haven’t had any problems with this. There are some carbon chips floating loose in mine, but only in the top compartment. There is one minor design slip, that the whole top compartment can slide off the pitcher when I’m trying to open the lid sometimes, but at under $15 I’m willing to overlook such a flaw. Also, the water tastes good.

Highly recommended, especially for college students who need to keep themselves hydrated.

      4 Stars Brita Slim pitcher
This product works as advertised. The only problem I have is, pouring, you have to be careful that the plastic filter holder does not disengage from the pitcher.

      4 Stars Everything was great
Got the filter exactly when i expected to get it. It was in great shape – for a great price. Service was good. I’d recommend (if asked) everyone to get a filter through this method.

      4 Stars Good little pitcher
I got this pitcher the other day, and so far I like it. It holds enough water to fill my coffee maker, and it’s not too big. It fits just fine in my fridge. It also fills up really fast thanks to being so small, which is awesome.

My only gripe is that the top is hard to pull off when you need to fill it up. It causes the whole inside unit to come out. I find that if you dig your fingernails into it rather than trying to lift it with your fingertips helps. It’s only a small gripe.

I recommend this to anyone who lives alone or with just one other person or has a small fridge.

      Bonus: Tasty water.

        User Ratings and Reviews

        5 Stars works perfectly fine
This filter works just great. I always used Pur faucet filters, but if you have high water pressure, sooner or later, it will break up… This one, instead, has no problems at all and the water tastes exactly the same. Good deal for the price.

The only flaw is a lack of an indicator that tells when it’s time to change it, but they send you a sticker to put on your calendar :) minimalist, but efficient.

4 Stars Great filter if you follow this little bit of advice…
At first, I did experience what a few of the other reviewers mentioned: after a short while the filter didn’t appear to have any affect on the taste of the water.

The problem, I discovered, is that if you run the water through the filter too quickly (by opening up the tap all the way) the charcoal filter just can’t do its job. As a rule of thumb, only allow enough flow through the filter so that it takes about 10-15 seconds to fill up a glass of water, and you’ll have great tasting water. So, if you have high water pressure, make sure you don’t open of the faucet all the way when filling a glass. There’s just no way a filter as small as this can do its job properly at the max flow rate of most faucets. You really need a large in-line filter for that.

Note that this only applies to the filter’s odor and taste removal properties, because this involves a chemical reaction of sorts where activated charcoal pulls chlorine (and other chemical) out of the water by binding to them. This is a completely different mechanism than what you normally associate with filtering, such as particles being caught in a mesh (which is essentially how the rest of the filter works in these, and so it’s really only the odor and taste that is affected by the rate at which you let water through the Cullgan).

        3 Stars FM-15RA inconsistent with FM-15R – please advise!
Hi, perhaps someone can resolve my confusion.

I also decided to add these photos for clarification to the guy who responded to me stating that he didn’t have what to compare the FM-15RA with:

eitch tee tee pee colin TWO slashes powerpics.tripod DOT COM SLASH culligan SLASH culliganfilters DOT hypertextmarkuplanguage

I just purchased some FM-15RA replacement filters. In the past, I used to get the FM-15R models which were made in USA (not China like these newfangled 15RA ones).

Anyway, in the past, I’d found that some of the FM-15R ones would gush (rather than flow), so I phoned Culligan in mid 2008, and after LOTS of hassle, reached a guy who actually knew something.

He asked me to check whether any of the holes are black rather than white. He said that all the holes need to be white NOT black to filter well.

Sure enough, the ones which gushed had some black holes, so he sent replacements which all had pure white at the holes.

Anyway, now I received the ones made in China, which seem like junk, since they’re lighter weight than the USA ones. Note i still have the USA ones, so i could compare.

Also, in the past, the USA ones did not emit what looks like vapor/smoke (probably the charcoal), upon screwing in & trying out for the first time. But the Chinese-made one DOES cause vapor/smoke (charcoal) to emit – which gives me the creeps, because it reminds me of when I erroneously poured Drano down the drain & it emitted similar vapor & hissed toxicly for a long time afterward to the extent that the clog-fixer-guy said it might have caused corrosion of pipes.

        But above all:

I’m really baffled now, because these newfangled Chinese made FM-15-RA’s all have greyish-black at the holes, rather than white. Yet the one I just now tried is not gushing (despite the blackish holes). Rather, it’s flowing.

This is inconsistent with what the Culligan guy had told me regarding the FM-15R. Because going according to him, these newfangled ones ought to be gushing since the holes are not pure white, but rather greyish black??!!

So what am I to believe?

        2 Stars Replacement cartridge leaks
Looks like I was unlucky. These cartridges leaked when I put them on the faucet mount. The first replacement I was able to manage with some teflon plumbing tape but the second squirted water all around the sink. I plan to buy the whole unit again because it makes my water taste better. This is the only reason I would give it 2 stars. Surprisingly I dont see too many bad reviews or any that say that the replacement leaked. Wonder why.

        5 Stars Good filter
Despite the reviews mentioning problems with the PUR faucet filter, I purchased a PUR faucet filter from a local in-store retailer. I returned it because it wouldn’t thread onto my standard thread faucet… Next purchase was this Culligan filter. I can’t comment on taste comparison as the PUR was defective out of the box, but the Culligan is superior construction, a quality product. As other reviewers states, the flow is decreased when using the filter. I’m quite happy with this purchase. Good quality product at great price with fast, free shipping when including an extra filter with the order. Great prices for the replacement filters also.

3 Stars Good concept, but not really worth it
Bought it. Used it. Loved it….at first. Not really worth it. The cover keeps popping off at the slightest touch and the flavors are just “alright”. We ended up just slicing lemons and limes and adding them to our glasses for a much more pleasant drink.

          4 Stars water lover
I purchased this because I got sick of purchasing bottled water. I am very picky about how my water tastes (We have terrible water here) and because that is pretty much all I drink I was a bit nervous about it. I found that the pur filter removes any unwanted flavors from the water, but I have to run it into a pitcher and refrigerate the water to get it as cold as I like. Unfortunately, I don’t have a filter for our ice maker, so if I try to use them they just leak the regular water taste into the glass. But, this is not a problem for me and is worth it because of the ‘green’ aspect. The only thing about this filter that I’ve found is not for me is the water flavor. The flavoring that you can purchase is just too sweet for me so I’m not a fan, but my husband cuts the sweetness down with a slice of lemon and that seems to work for him. Other than not having needed the flavoring aspect of this filter I do love it and am extremely glad we now have it!

5 Stars I just got the water filter
Very nice ! I did not have any problem with leaking. I am very please. easy to install and I like the flavors with 0 calories

2 Stars Well, mine broke finally
I was somewhat lucky as that my purifier was functional for about 2 years. I think I got mine at K-mart for $30

here’s what I liked and disliked:

+The water itself is noticably fresh and good tasting (using the 3 stage filters).

-The flavor thing is dumb, I didn’t like the taste of them and the dispenser is of a chintzy design (it looked impressive on display)

-it takes a while, like 10 seconds to fill a glass, rather than 3 seconds or so.

-The unit is pretty bulky and makes it hard to see the dishes

-If you have a faucet nozle that lets you adjust where the water comes out of slightly (like I did) you will have to remove this and basically store it until your purifier breaks and you can put it back on.

-These things aparently tend to break…

Mine suddenly broke a few days ago. First the LED indicator stopped coming on, so I decided to buy two new filters ($25…). I popped a new one in and ran the sink for a while, and walked away. The light came on, but it didn’t go off like it was supposed to. I fiddled with it for a while to no avail. It sounded like something was loose in the head peice when I removed it to give it a shake. That went on until the battery failed presumably (~15 hours).

Now, most importantly, it seems that my PUR water filter is no longer filtering the water. The water tastes noticably worse, and it comes out of the unit suspiciously fast. I’m really disapointed with losing the $25 for the filters.

          4 Stars Great product,BUT!
This is a great filter for the price and the flavoring is a major plus. Now lets get to the BUT! part which is that this is my second one of these (the first one was perfect until a plumbing job ruined it with plumbers putty)and it leaks on the faucet so instead of sending it back I’ll deal with it till I buy another which will be another one of these.
